First Day At The New Job!

Today was my official first day as a Technology Teacher! I am very excited about this position, and I feel more confident too. My classroom is not a traditional classroom with a white board, desks, etc. My classroom is way cooler in my opinion. My classroom is none other than the Computer Lab! I am excited at how it is going to look after I decorate it and all. Right now the computers that are in there are kind of old and slow, but the do work. My boss told me that those old computers are coming out and I will be getting brand new ones! There are other things in my room that are coming out as well like old computer screens or keyboards that don't work, overhead projectors that don't work and etc. That room was basically a storage for technological things that do not work or are old. I did get to meet some of the staff today as well. Everyone was really nice too. I met my mentor Carol who will be working with me and guiding me through this process. Carol was a Technology Teacher before, so I am excited to learn all I can from her. I met two other ladies that were with her who have been Technology Teachers as well. I can't remember their names, but they will be at the school to help me as well. All three ladies showed me some websites that I will be working with this school year. Some of them I am familiar with from working as a Teacher Assistant in IL. So that makes it easier for me. The ones that I am not familiar with, I will have to learn my way around.  I also met the Media Specialist. Mr. Ferrar. He is a very nice man who is very excited to have me working with him. The library and my classroom (The Computer Lab) are adjacent to each other, so we will see each other a lot.  So I spent the day checking all 18 computers and making sure they worked and all, meeting new staff, and learning the basics. I am coming back tomorrow to do some more work and cleaning. School starts next week, I hope I will be ready!

New Position-Miss Tech Teacher

After searching high and low for another teaching opportunity for the 2011-2012 school year, I am happy to announce that my search has come to an end. I am now the new Technology Teacher (Tech for short) at an elementary school in Nashville TN. I was a little worried about this job at first because I was not sure if I could do it. I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School Endorsement in English and History. The only computer knowledge that I know is basic stuff. I know my way around a computer pretty well, don't get me wrong, but I didn't know what the job entailed. So my new boss explained to me briefly what I will be doing, and I think I can handle it. I think it will be fun actually and I am quite excited about it. My classroom will be the computer lab with 25-30 computers. I will be teaching the entire student body K-4. That's right, I will have a really big roster of over 250 kids. So I will get to see all of the little tykes. On the faculty I am considered a Related Arts Teacher. Related Arts Teachers are those that teach: Art, Music, and P.E. From what I understand I will be teaching them basic keyboarding skills and other programs as well that will enhance their math and reading skills. There will be training involved, I will get the chance to go to Professional Development Classes and I will go to other schools and get a feel for what other Tech Teachers do. Honestly, I never knew such a position existed especially in the Elementary School setting. Usually the Tech Teacher works with the Library or Media Specialist, and I am not degreed in any of those subjects. However, I must say I know my way around the library pretty darn well. So this job will have some advantages and disadvantages I'm sure. One advantage is that I don't have to be bothered with state testing, and and advantage is that I get to do something that I love in the grade level that I am most comfortable in. Like I mentioned previously, I am creating another blog about my Tech Teaching job that I am excited about. I will tell you more about that as it comes. As of right now, school starts in about a week for me.  I am very happy and blessed to have this position and, I believe and know I will be successful at it. I am going to sit back and embrace my New Position-Miss Tech Teacher :)
